PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 2,431 new Covid-19 cases on Wednesday (Sept 14) bringing the total number of infections in the country to 4,811,327 since the pandemic began.
According to the Health Ministry's GitHub data repository, this is the first time that daily Covid-19 cases have gone above 2,000 since Sept 9.
Meanwhile, the ministry's CovidNow portal reported that 2,423 of the Covid-19 cases detected on Wednesday were locally transmitted while there were 8 imported infections.
The portal also reported that there were 1,820 recoveries from Covid-19 on Wednesday, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 4,748,732 since the pandemic began.
There are currently 26,299 active Covid-19 cases in the country, with 25,024 patients, or 95.2% of the total, observing home quarantine and seven more are seeking treatment at quarantine and treatment centres nationwide.
A total of 1,206 individuals, or 4.6% of active cases, are being treated in hospitals while there are 66 cases, or 0.3% of the total, admitted to intensive care units (ICU) nationwide.
As at 11.59pm Wednesday, 22 of those admitted to the ICU did not require ventilator support while 40 were ventilated.
Malaysia's current ICU utilisation rate stands at 62% overall, with Covid-19 patients accounting for 16.9% of the country's ICU utilisation rate.
The GitHub data repository also reported that there were five deaths due to Covid-19 reported on Wednesday, including two classified as "brought-in-dead".
This brings the total number of Covid-19 fatalities in Malaysia to 36,296.
Three of Wednesday's Covid-19 deaths were reported in Perak, while there was one each in Sabah and Sarawak.
